# Build a Report

Reports in Taskmaverick are fully customizable. You choose which data sections to include, which filters to apply, and which report types to generate — then save, reuse, and share.

***

## Why build custom reports?

[Overview](/analytics-and-monitoring/overview.md) gives you live data. [Dashboard](/analytics-and-monitoring/dashboards.md) gives you metrics. But when you need to present findings to leadership, track compliance across a quarter, or compare Mission execution across all locations — you need a structured report that you can configure once and regenerate anytime.

**Example:** A Compliance Manager creates a report with a Mission Section (Closed + Overdue) and a Ticket Section (all types). Every Monday, they regenerate it for the previous week, export to Excel, and share with the leadership team.

***

## How to create a report

Go to **Reporting → New Report**.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Name and configure

<table><thead><tr><th width="141.6666259765625">Field</th><th width="119.3333740234375">Required</th><th>What it does</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Report Name</strong></td><td>Yes</td><td>Identifies the report in your list</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tag</strong></td><td>No</td><td>Organize reports with tags</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Show Risk Summary</strong></td><td>No (on by default)</td><td>Adds a visual overview block showing the percentage breakdown of Missions by category (Team Missions, Personal Missions, Tickets). Each segment is clickable — click to filter the report to that category. When you first open a report with Risk Summary enabled, the system lands on the first item in the summary.</td></tr></tbody></table>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add sections

Click **Add Section** and choose from the available report sections. Each section represents a data domain:

<table><thead><tr><th width="183.666748046875">Section</th><th>What it covers</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Mission</strong></td><td>Mission execution: closed, running, overdue, short execution, canceled, response analysis</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Person</strong></td><td>Same data as Mission, but filtered person-first</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Unit</strong></td><td>Same data, filtered unit-first</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Team</strong></td><td>Same data, filtered team-first</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Ticket</strong></td><td>Ticket activity and resolution</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Ticket Board</strong></td><td>Ticket Board-level analysis</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Test</strong></td><td>Test scores and pass/fail rates</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Audit</strong></td><td>Audit results and compliance</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Process</strong></td><td>Process execution, duration, frequency</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Statistics</strong></td><td>Performance metrics (Points, Work Quality, etc.)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Public Interface</strong></td><td>External user responses via shared links</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Training</strong></td><td>Course completion and training progress</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
Mission, Person, Unit, and Team sections share the same underlying data — only the filter layout differs. Choose whichever matches how you want to slice the data.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip:** Use **Mission Tags** as a filter instead of selecting individual Missions. When you filter by tag (e.g. "Kitchen"), any new Mission you create with that tag is automatically included in the report — no need to update the configuration.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select report types

Each section has its own report types. For example, the Mission Section offers:

<table><thead><tr><th width="239">Report type</th><th>What it shows</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Running</strong></td><td>Currently Open and Claimed instances</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Closed</strong></td><td>Completed Missions with full detail</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Short Execution</strong></td><td>Missions completed suspiciously fast</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Overdue</strong></td><td>Missions that exceeded their expected duration</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Canceled</strong></td><td>Canceled instances</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Response Analysis</strong></td><td>Question-by-question response breakdown</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Reference Dashboard</strong></td><td>Reference-specific tracking</td></tr></tbody></table>

Select at least one section and one report type, then **Save**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Generate and view

Open your saved report. The **Navigation Sidebar** on the left shows your report structure in three levels:

1. **Report Group** — the data domain (Mission, Ticket, Process)
2. **Report Section** — your configured section
3. **Report Block** — the specific table (Closed, Running, etc.) with summary counts

Click any block to load its data table. Use **Group By** to reorganize rows by Unit, Team, Person, Mission, or Status.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Managing reports

<table><thead><tr><th width="170">Action</th><th>How</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Edit</strong></td><td>Report list → select report → Actions → Edit (or gear icon inside the report)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Delete</strong></td><td>Report list → select report → Actions → Delete (confirmation required)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Refresh data</strong></td><td>Inside a report → click <strong>Refresh</strong> to reload with latest data</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Export</strong></td><td>Inside a report → <strong>Export</strong> current table to Excel, or <strong>Send All Reports by Email</strong> as a zip file</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Save default view</strong></td><td>After adjusting Group By or switching to Daily Distribution, click <strong>Update Default View</strong> — next time you open the report, it loads your preferred layout</td></tr></tbody></table>

***

## Subscribing to reports

Subscriptions let you schedule reports to be emailed automatically — so leadership gets weekly data without anyone logging in.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open the subscription settings

Open a report → click the **Subscription** icon
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Configure

<table><thead><tr><th width="170.3333740234375">Field</th><th>What it controls</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Report</strong></td><td>Which report to send</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Period</strong></td><td>Date range for the data (e.g. last 7 days)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Timeframe</strong></td><td>How often to send (daily, weekly, monthly)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Recipients</strong></td><td>Email addresses (must belong to the organization)</td></tr></tbody></table>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save the subscription

Save the subscription
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Test before sending

Before activating a subscription, click **Send Test Email** to preview exactly what recipients will see. Test emails can be sent to one recipient at a time. Requires the Report, Period, and Timeframe fields to be filled.

### How recipients see it

Recipients receive an email with a summary. On mobile, subscribed reports appear in a **compact view** — a simplified, read-only layout optimized for phone screens.

## Viewing modes inside reports

Beyond the standard table view, some report types offer additional modes:

<table><thead><tr><th width="183.6666259765625">Mode</th><th width="222">Available in</th><th>What it does</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Daily Distribution</strong></td><td>Closed reports, Statistics</td><td>Breaks data into day-by-day columns for a selected week</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Gallery View</strong></td><td>Closed reports</td><td>Shows submitted photos and videos grouped by Mission — for proof review</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Group By</strong></td><td>Most reports</td><td>Reorganizes the table by Unit, Team, Person, Mission, or Status</td></tr></tbody></table>

See [Report Sections at a Glance](/analytics-and-monitoring/reporting/report-sections-at-a-glance.md) for details on what each section supports.

***

## Good to know

* At least **one section and one report type** are required to save
* Reports are **not auto-refreshed** — click Refresh manually to update
* Refreshing resets any column filters or sorting you applied to the table
* Changing the date range while in Daily Distribution view keeps you in Daily Distribution (doesn't jump back to the default view)
* A report can contain **multiple sections**, each with its own configuration
* System Admins can create, edit, and delete reports; Organization Managers have **view-only** access
* Subscription recipients must have an email address belonging to the organization

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://documentation.taskmaverick.com/analytics-and-monitoring/reporting/build-a-report.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
